Transit Products and Services is the Sole Distributor of the Heat Guard Glass Product for the Public Transportation Industry. Heat Guard has some very unique heat/energy rejection properties proven to reduce the heat in the driver’s area and throughout the entire cavity of the bus. Heat Guard accomplishes this while maintaining a light colored glass that will still allow light to enter the bus as well as allow operations supervisors and law enforcement to see into the coach.
Heat Guard was designed by NASA about 20 years ago and applied to the housing market in the Sunbelt regions of the United States to help reduce the high costs of heating and cooling. The material was first provided as a film application for housing and some automotive applications. Then nearly 10 years later the film characteristics were integrated into the glass. This new glass is used in the automotive industry exclusively for the high-end automobiles like Mercedes-Benz and Lexus. What makes the material so valuable are the unique energy rejection properties that focus on "reflecting" hot and cold energy and UV rays but allowing the greatest amount of visible light to pass through the windowpane. In short the material reflects the energy away from the glass increasing the cool comfort zone in the interior of the vehicle.

THE HEAT GUARD DIFFERENCE
44% - temperature dropped from 350 to 243 degrees
Heat Guard Glazing
temperature dropped
from 300 to 19 degrees
95% clear - temperature dropped from 350 to 300 degrees
14% - temperature dropped from 350 to 111 degrees
TPS tested and compared 14% LT (Light Transmittance), 28% LT, 44% LT, and clear driver's glass found on all buses in the North Americas to Heat Guard 76% LT, the goal is to observe how much heat is rejected by each piece of glass. Each pane was placed the same distance away from the heat lamp. The energy measured at this distance was 350 degrees. Each glass was placed in front of the heat lamp at the fixed location and the energy was measured to see how much heat each glass blocked. The results were astonishing proving Heat Guard out performed all the glazing materials supplied in the Transit Market. Below are the measured results.
95% clear - temperature dropped from 350 to 300 degrees; stopped 19% of the heat
44% - temperature dropped from 350 to 243 degrees; stopped 63% of the heat
14% - temperature dropped from 350 to 111 degrees; stopped 32% of the heat
Heat Guard Glazing- temperature dropped from 300 to 19 degrees; stopped 94% of the heat
Heat Guard is successfully being used by Transit Properties all over the USA.
We have had positive feed back from both mechanics and the drivers at all the properties. At Thousand Palms, within the first week 15 driver's came to the Director of Maintenance and commented on how much more comfortable they felt during their daily route. There was no more heat felt on their arms, face or legs.
Heat Guard rejects the heat before it enters the bus and keeps the bus cooler. This results in less stress on the AC System which will increase the life span of the system and reduce maintenance of the system. This will result in cost savings and less coach down time. On some routes during the summer months drivers have reported that they did not need to use the AC System once Heat Guard was installed.
I hope you find this information valuable and recognize the benefits Heat Guard will provide your fleet for the remaining duty cycle of the vehicle. Heat Guard is available on all window configurations and it is offered through any window or bus manufacturer. Please contact us today to retrofit your existing window glass or to obtain more information on having Heat Guard spec’d in on new bus orders.
